A grand rhododendron festival was celebrated in Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale area for five days from 22- 26 April 2007. Honorable speaker of legislative parliament Mr. Subas Nembang inaugurated the festival. Mr Nembang was accompanied with about two dozen member of legislative parliament including three ministers. About 30 thousand people were participated in that event. The entire TMJ area was decorated as a bride at that time. Local people exhibited various domestic products and they had organized ethnic cultural events in their own locality.
Rhododendron gold cup football tournament
Every year during the Tihar festival (November), a regional level rhododendron gold cup football tournament is organized in Basantapur, Tehrathum. It is very famous in eastern Nepal. IUCN Dharan has provided the gold cup where as local youth clubs manage the event. Last year 32 different teams of boys and girls from all over the eastern Nepal had participated in that tournament. The main objective of this tournament is to create awareness among the youth about rhododendron conservation and it has been found very effective since the beginning.
