National Rhododendron Conservatin Management Committee

Introduction

With the purpose of improving the livelihoods of local people through sustainable conservation of natural resoruces and biodiversity, National Rhododendron Conservation Management Committee (NORM) was established in 1999. It is a non-governmental, independent, non-profit making organization. Currently it is working in the 23 VDCs of Taplejung, Tehrathum and Sankhuwasabha districts. It has a dedicated team of local people who were born and brouhgt up in the same. A committee of seven is responsible for the operation of NORM. At present, 10 life members, 113 organizational members and 1,051 general members are associated with NORM.

National Flower of Nepal

Rhododendron arboretum is Nepal's National flower. This is also a symbolic expression of global peace exhibited by the Gurkha army. The union of two Latin words forms the generic term rhododendron. Rhodo stands for red or rose and dendrons for trees or branches. Thirty species are available in eastern part of Nepal.

Since the establishment of NORM, Rhododendron Conservation Activity has been conducting in the Tinjure-Milke-Jaljale area.
